Steelers player Cameron Sutton suspended for 8 games for violating NFL rules of conduct

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cameron Sutton has been suspended for eight games for violating the NFL’s rules of conduct.

Sutton has been suspended for the first eight games of the 2024 regular season, the NFL announced Monday. The league said it investigated Sutton’s arrest on domestic violence charges in March and “found he violated the rules of conduct.”

He will be eligible to rejoin the roster on October 29 following Pittsburgh’s Week 8 game against the New York Giants.

Why was Cameron Sutton suspended?

In a press release on Monday, the NFL said Sutton had violated the rules of conduct.

In March, Sutton was allegedly involved in a domestic incident with a girlfriend. After evading police for weeks, he turned himself in. He was originally charged with a felony, but the charge was reduced to assault. He then entered a pre-trial diversion program to resolve the case.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Sutton’s suspension was final and he would not appeal.

During organized team activities with Pittsburgh in June, Sutton said he could not discuss the case but talked about moving on.

“Everyone is hit with adversity in life,” Sutton said. “So it’s how you deal with it and how you go through those stages. You just have to know who you are, as an individual, and not let someone else take the shine off you.”

The Detroit Lions signed Sutton after the 2022 season. He started 17 games last season, but the team released him after learning of the charges in March.

Sutton was selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2017 draft and spent six seasons with the team before joining the Lions.
