Oladip Oshodi from Dagenham jailed for brutal rape of woman

Oladip Oshodi, 48, made sexual advances to a woman at his home in the Mayesbrook district of Dagenham on the evening of July 11 last year.

The woman told him she did not want sex, but Oshodi raped her twice during the night.

He then began to beat her and she was only able to escape by jumping out of a ground floor window.

She then collapsed in the middle of the street. Concerned onlookers called the police and brought her to safety.

The woman was taken to hospital to receive treatment for her injuries.

Oshodi was arrested by police the next day and remained in custody pending trial.

On May 10, he was found guilty of two counts of rape, administration of a poisonous substance, threats to kill, grievous bodily harm and controlling coercive measures.

On Friday (5 July), Oshodi was sentenced to 25 years in prison at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Detective Constable Serena McGhee said: “Oshodi is a dangerous man and it is right that he now serves a long prison sentence in a place where he poses no danger to women.

“I commend the courage of the victim and the witnesses in this case.

“Oshodi has shown no remorse throughout the investigation and trial and I am glad that he must face the consequences of his actions.”

PC Kayleigh Grafton, an officer specialising in sexual offences, added that she hoped Oshodi’s verdict would help encourage other victims of sexual offences to come forward.
