Man shot in road rage incident on July 4

Two other people were injured.

Taneytown, Maryland (KM) The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into an incident near Taneytown Thursday evening in which shots were fired and one person died.

Just after 10 p.m. on July 4, deputies, state police, Taneytown police and fire and EMS responded to a report of a shooting on Bear Run Road and Runnymede Road. Authorities say it all started with an incident of aggression between the occupants of a sedan and a pickup truck on Route 140 east of Taneytown. The two vehicles followed each other on Bear Run Road near Runnymede Road, where they stopped.

Some occupants got out and began to fight. A gun was fired several times, hitting three people. A 36-year-old man with an address in Westminster was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other men were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds that are not considered life-threatening.

A 33-year-old woman who was injured, although not by gunfire, was also taken to hospital. An 18-month-old child in one of the vehicles was taken to hospital as a precaution.

There were no further injuries.

No charges have been filed as detectives from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit continue their investigation.
