Yazoo County man released on bail after being found guilty of rape

Jimmy Allen, a Yazoo County man, was recently found guilty by a Yazoo County District Court jury of raping his daughter.

Allen was found guilty of six counts of rape of a minor, but was then granted $75,000 bail on Tuesday, June 2, much to the dismay of the court. After being placed on suicide watch following his conviction on Tuesday, April 5, he was released from jail and is currently awaiting his appeal.

Allen was sentenced on April 14 to 30 years in prison for each count of rape of a minor. Prosecutors say he is a danger to himself and his community, but the judge agreed to release him on bail.

District Attorney Akillie Malone-Oliver said, “Today’s decision to grant Allen bail following a jury conviction was very disturbing, shocking and disappointing to the victim and her family.”

Allen’s child victim was only 11 years old when the sexual abuse began. District Attorney Malone-Oliver noted that the bail allowed Allen to return to his community after the court received letters supporting his release. Veronica Starling, the wife of the current mayor of Yazoo, was one of the people who wrote a letter in support of Allen’s release.
