Thousands of drivers face suspension after raids on July 1

Thousands of drivers risk having their driving licenses revoked if they do not change their car insurance, politicians warned.

On July 1, a new traffic law came into effect that abolishes a $500 exemption that thousands of drivers had to buy each year.

According to local NBC affiliate WWBT, drivers in Virginia must have car insurance or risk having their driver’s license revoked.

Previously, drivers who were uninsured could purchase an annual exemption worth $500.

This exception was repealed in the new law.

The Virginia DMV expects the rule to affect 6,000 drivers.

Tom Brown, CEO of Mega Insurance Center, told the station that drivers were taking advantage of this loophole in the law to avoid paying for their car insurance.

For other drivers, however, the situation became financially unsustainable.

In dozens of US states, insurance premiums have risen faster than the rate of inflation.

The legislator is convinced that monthly costs could be reduced if all vehicles on the road were insured.

“It takes a lot of action to reduce the overall premium costs for drivers in Virginia,” Brown said.

“I think this is the right step and maybe insurance premiums will have a positive impact in the long run if people are a little more responsible about maintaining their insurance coverage.”

Drivers always forget to tell insurers these important points

Vehicle costs have skyrocketed in recent years, leading to a dramatic increase in insurance premiums in the United States.

According to Fortune, the average price of a new vehicle in America is over $47,000.

With many cars equipped with microchips, cameras and more and more standard technology, repairs after an accident are becoming increasingly expensive.

At the same time, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there have been more vehicle accidents in recent years.

“It now costs twice as much to repair or replace a vehicle that once cost $20,000,” Brown told the station.

“If insurers now have to repair vehicles that are twice as expensive as they were a few years ago, they will incur huge losses.”

Car insurance tips

Here are some ways to lower your monthly car insurance premiums:

  • Increase the deductible – this can increase the amount drivers have to pay in the event of an accident
  • Ask your insurance company for discounts
  • Drive slower on the road
  • Leave your cell phone off while driving
  • Improving creditworthiness (in some states)
  • Bundling insurance policies

Brown added that there are many ways to keep insurance premiums low.

The likelihood of an accident or a ticket is reduced if you accelerate near the speed limits, turn off your cell phone while driving, and stay alert on the road.

By ensuring cheaper calls, monthly fees can also be kept within limits.
