Police arrest 15-year-old suspect in stolen Jeep in connection with armed robbery – Baltimore Sun

Baltimore police arrested a 15-year-old boy who fled from police in a stolen Jeep on Tuesday night and rammed two police vehicles.

The Jeep he was driving was linked to an armed robbery in southwest Baltimore, authorities said. The pursuit ended in the 5900 block of Pulaski Highway, police said.

A police flier says officers have been searching for the Jeep Grand Cherokee since it was involved in an armed robbery in the 1200 block of Hollins Street on June 29. The flier warns officers that the Jeep’s occupants should be considered armed and dangerous.

The flyer indicates that the Jeep linked to an armed robbery “beared MD license plate 9CY6062.”

That was the license plate of the damaged stolen Jeep that police towed in the 5900 block of Pulaski Highway. The driver of the Jeep had attempted to flee from police and damaged the Jeep, according to a police source.

Officers had tracked the Jeep earlier in the day as it drove through northeast Baltimore, at which point investigators had determined that the vehicle’s license plates were believed to have been stolen from another Jeep, a police source said.

In a press release Tuesday evening, police said the license plate reading system in the Frankford neighborhood of northeast Baltimore alerted officers that the Jeep was traveling in the area.

Officers set up a cordon in that area and waited for the vehicle to emerge. Police said when the teen behind the wheel realized officers were trying to arrest him, he “accelerated his vehicle, struck two police vehicles” and sped away.

A police report on the June 29 incident describes a man walking to work when a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with tinted windows slowly approached him. The Jeep pulled up next to him and stopped. Then an armed man wearing a mask and dark tracksuit got out of the vehicle, pointed a gun at him and demanded that he hand over his watch and wallet.

The man complied with the demands of the armed person, who then returned to the jeep and left the area.

Inside the wallet were the man’s bank card, his EBT card, appointment cards and $21. In total, his watch and wallet were worth about $900, according to the police report.

With the help of city cameras, investigators were able to track the vehicle’s movements before the robbery.

According to authorities, the 15-year-old boy arrested on Pulaski Highway was “transported to the juvenile detention center for processing.”
