Hyderabad: The Students’ Union of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) ended its sit-in on campus after the university administration lifted the suspension of five students.

However, the university’s executive council maintained the fine of Rs 10,000 imposed on these five students, while reducing the fine on another group of five students from Rs 10,000 to Rs 5,000.

The university had suspended and fined five students for protesting against the conduct of the annual cultural festival Sukoon outside VC’s hostel on May 18. The students’ union said the university administration lifted the suspension after meeting with them on Saturday.

Welcoming the university’s decision to lift the suspension, the students’ union said that the total fine of Rs 75,000 imposed on the students was an outrageous amount to be charged from students who had no source of income. The students’ union condemned the decision to impose fines and opposed such punitive measures against students protesting for their rights.
