ISP: Man arrested on drug charges after officers pull partially submerged truck from river

HARRISON COUNTY, Ind. – A man was arrested after officers pulled a truck from a river Friday.

According to a news release, rescue crews were dispatched to a boat ramp in Mauckport after a submerged vehicle was reported. When state police and other officials arrived, they discovered an F-150 pickup truck mostly submerged in the Ohio River.

ISP stated that the driver of the truck appeared to have driven too far down the boat ramp. Police identified the driver of the truck as 61-year-old James Schuppert of Mauckport.

According to a press release, the police officers who arrived at the scene knew Schuppert and knew that there was an arrest warrant out for him.

An ISP diver, with assistance from A-1 Towing, helped recover Schuppert and the vehicle from the river. After police brought Schuppert back to shore, he was arrested and transported to the Harrison County Jail.

Schuppert was preliminarily charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

The most serious of the charges against Schuppert is manufacturing methamphetamine, a Level 4 felony. The maximum penalty for such a crime in Indiana is 12 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
