News from Houston, Texas: Teen on electric scooter hit by police car

The teen was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

HOUSTON — A teenager was left in critical condition Friday evening after being struck by a Houston Police Department patrol car while crossing the street on an electric scooter downtown, police said.

The accident happened around 9:40 p.m. at the intersections of Crawford Street and Rusk Street.

HPD said the patrol vehicle was traveling on Rusk Street through the intersection when the 16-year-old crossed in front of it. The officer had the green light at the time, police said.

The teenager was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

HPD said the crash will be thoroughly investigated, the same as any crash involving a city vehicle.
