Today hazy with risk of storms

Happy Saturday morning, get ready for a sweltering afternoon with high humidity and a chance of storms. Showers and thunderstorms have spread across the Northern Ozarks this morning, with a risk of flooding and gusty winds.

The weather is expected to weaken and clear up in the afternoon, but clouds could linger afterward. Despite the morning rain, it will feel like an oven this afternoon. A heat advisory and excessive heat warning are in effect for the Ozarks until 8 p.m. Temperatures could feel as high as 110 degrees and our surface temperatures will be in the low to high 90 degrees.

In addition, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop again this afternoon along a cold front. It doesn’t look like a downpour for anyone, but the chance of severe weather during this time is low. Hail and strong winds would be the main concerns until the rain clears up this evening. A few scattered showers could linger into Sunday, but I’m not entirely convinced.

For many of us, tomorrow will likely remain dry, despite scattered rain showers in Arkansas through Sunday afternoon. Most importantly, it will be cooler and less humid, with highs ranging from 27 to 30 degrees, making this the best day of the weekend.

High pressure builds during the work week, and skies turn sunny by Monday and Tuesday afternoon. We’ll be above 27 degrees for one more day before we’re back above 30 degrees Tuesday through Thursday. Rain chances will increase each day during the second half of the week, including Independence Day. While heat and humidity will become oppressive during this time, we’ll also need to watch for storms each day when a frontal boundary stalls.

This could impact some outdoor activities, but there is still a lot of uncertainty about the timing and amount of rain. Storm chances are expected to decrease by next weekend, with cooler air briefly returning.
