Connecticut warehouse fire under investigation: State Police

According to state police, the fire burned chemicals including fertilizers, peat, pesticides, ammonia, PFAS and other toxins.

FRANKLIN, Connecticut – A fire damaged warehouses at a garden plant wholesaler in Franklin on Monday.

Local firefighters were called to Plant Group on Pond Road early Monday morning because trees and wires were burning. They then noticed an orange glow that turned out to be a fire in one of the plant’s warehouses, state police said. Firefighters who arrived found flames around the electrical components that power the warehouse, state police said.

According to state police, the fire burned chemicals including fertilizers, peat, pesticides, ammonia, PFAS and other toxins.

Environmental officials also arrived on site to take air and water samples.

The fire closed parts of Pond Road for several hours and has now reopened.

It is unclear whether any injuries were reported at the scene of the accident.

The Franklin Fire Marshal and Connecticut State Police are investigating the origin and cause of the fire. Officials do not believe this is a criminal incident at this time.
