Semi-truck driver dead, US 441 closed after semi-truck crash in Osceola County, cops say

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Florida. – A tractor-trailer driver was killed Saturday morning when two tractor-trailers collided on U.S. Highway 441 in Osceola County, causing a complete closure of the busy roadway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at about 7:17 a.m. south of State Road 60, officials said.

According to a preliminary accident report from FHP, one semi-truck was traveling south on U.S. 441 while the other was traveling north. When the driver of the northbound semi-truck moved into the southbound lane for an unknown reason, the driver of the southbound semi-truck attempted to swerve to avoid a collision, the report said.

The left front of the northbound semi-truck struck the left front of the other, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway and roll over in the woods, troopers said. The northbound semi-truck came to a final stop on its roof, while the southbound semi-truck came to a final stop on its right side, according to FHP.

The driver of the northbound semi-truck was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. The other driver – a 28-year-old man from Orlando – was not injured in the crash. The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been determined, according to FHP.

A roadblock was set up at the accident site on US 441 in both directions, the report said.

The FHP investigation is still ongoing.
