Officers arrived on scene and removed the woman from harm’s way, rescued her, and turned her over to Watertown paramedics for immediate treatment and transport to Aurora Medical Center in Summit. As of this posting, the woman is in stable condition.

Officers immediately managed to secure the area and establish a perimeter around the home. The suspect, 38 years old and from rural Watertown, remained barricaded inside a residence until 12:16 a.m. on June 22, 2024, when the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was able to enter and take him into custody. This was possible with the assistance of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, Watertown Police ERT, and equipment loaned and operated by the Fond du Lac Police Department.

Sheriff Dale Schmidt would like to emphasize to the public how proud the community should be of everyone involved in this incident. Communications officers received and relayed critical information quickly and accurately. Responding officers performed life-saving measures, putting themselves in harm’s way to perform those life-saving measures, while also ensuring the suspect could not flee the scene to protect the public. Tactical teams worked together to slowly and methodically approach and take into custody a dangerous individual who was believed to be armed and dangerous. Great care was taken to ensure the individual was taken into custody without undue risk to them or our law enforcement officers.

This case is still under investigation and the person is currently being treated by medical personnel. Once he has been medically examined and questioned, a decision will be made on the appropriate charges against the perpetrator.

Further information will not be available until Monday, June 24, 2024 at the earliest, at which time a further press release may be issued if appropriate.
