IRVINE – A 37-year-old Monrovia man was behind bars Wednesday on suspicion of at least four burglaries in which he allegedly posed as a food delivery driver to disguise himself, police said.

Police arrested the suspect Tuesday on suspicion of burglary, said Kyle Oldoerp of the Irvine Police Department.

Investigators suspect he has been breaking into townhouses and condominiums in the city since November. Video surveillance footage has linked him to at least four break-ins, Oldoerp said.

Irvine police are checking with neighboring law enforcement agencies to see if the suspect is connected to other burglaries, he added.

One of the videos reportedly shows the suspect walking around with a Starbucks bag with a receipt stapled to it.

“It makes it appear to him that he is delivering something, and that allows him to wander around” looking for houses with unlocked doors or windows, Oldoerp said.

The police also assume that he also looked under floor mats for keys to gain access.

“This definitely underscores how important cameras are for security,” said Oldoerp. “They definitely helped us find him.”

Police also posted information about the suspect on social media last month, prompting a victim to call investigators, Oldoerp said.
