Cypress Taekwondo instructors defend themselves against sexual assault suspect

When officers arrived at the scene, instructors had pinned the suspect to the ground and taken him into custody, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A group of Tae Kwon Do instructors managed to rescue a woman from an attack in the Cypress area, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez

Gonzalez did not say what day it happened, but said trainers at the Yong-In Tae Kwon Dojo next door heard a commotion. When they went to see what was going on, they saw a man trying to sexually assault a woman, Gonzalez said.

As the instructors pulled the woman away from the attacker, the suspect turned toward the instructors and attempted to attack her, Gonzalez said.

“Thanks to their training and discipline, they were able to stop the attack and contain him,” Gonzalez said.

When officers arrived, instructors had pinned the man to the ground and taken him into custody, Gonzalez said.

“Thank you to the Yong-In Dojo for your quick action to protect others,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said the 19-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with attempted sexual assault, false imprisonment and assault on the instructors.
