Man sentenced to life imprisonment for raping 15-year-old girl in Ekiti

Justice JO Adeyeye of the Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday sentenced one Ojo Ayegbusi to life imprisonment for the rape of a 15-year-old girl in the state.

The convicted man was charged with rape by the state government.

The Attorney General, Mr Julius Ajibare, in his remarks stated that the convict committed the crime when the victim was returning home from school.

He said: “The girl was molested by the convict who lured her into his room and had sexual intercourse with her.

“The victim could not tell anyone about her terrible experience, but her father found out about it when the girl collapsed at home and blood was pouring from her private area.

“However, she was taken to hospital while the convicted man was arrested and brought to trial.”

The offence, he said, contravened Section 31(2) of the Child Rights Act, Cap.C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor called five witnesses and presented three pieces of evidence to support his case.

The accused, speaking through his lawyer, Mr EO Sunmonu, testified in his defence and called another witness.

In his verdict, the judge stated that the prosecution had proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant had committed rape.

He convicted the defendant and imposed a life sentence.
