Person found dead at the foot of the San Pedro cliffs

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, one person was found dead and another was rescued at the foot of steep cliffs in San Pedro early Sunday morning.

Just before 2 a.m., firefighters responded to a 911 call at Point Fermin Park, known for its steep cliffs overlooking the ocean. Fire officials said a body was found near the base of the cliffs and another person was rescued halfway down.

According to the statement, the survivor required “medical attention” and was taken to hospital. The identity of the two people was not disclosed in the statement, nor were the circumstances of the deaths disclosed.

The department said firefighters were unable to immediately recover the body due to “deteriorating conditions,” so they would conduct a “second land-based rope rescue” to recover the deceased person.

It is the second time within a month that a person found dead at the foot of the cliffs.
