Man killed in Carroll County road rage shooting allegedly pulled out gun first

A car crash turned fatal over the weekend when a Carrollton man was shot and killed off Interstate 71 in Carroll County. “Unfortunately, car crashes are becoming more and more common, and we don’t want to see something like this happen in our community,” KSP Police Officer Chad Johnson told WLKY. KSP identified the man killed as Daniel Shouse. The fatal incident occurred near Laura Wilson’s home, who lives down the street and attended the same church as the victim. “From what I knew him, he was very, very nice, very sweet, very, you know, articulate. He didn’t seem to have a bad hair in his body,” Wilson said. But car crashes can overwhelm anyone, and according to Johnson, Saturday’s shooting involved Shouse and another driver. “I’m not sure what made either of them or both of them so angry,” Johnson said. Investigators said the two drivers were traveling south on I-71 around 7 p.m. when Shouse passed the other vehicle. The driver called 911 and told police that Shouse had pulled out a gun. Then, Johnson said, both vehicles took Exit 43 onto KY Highway 389. At some point after exiting the ramp, Johnson said, Shouse made a U-turn and came back toward the other driver. That’s when the confrontation escalated and shots were fired. Both drivers were in their vehicles at the time. “We have reason to believe there were firearms in both vehicles,” Johnson said. The other driver remained at the scene of the crash and is cooperating with the KSP investigation. “It just comes down to not having an outburst of aggression and not, you know, taking another human being’s life,” Wilson said. The Carroll County District Attorney’s Office will decide whether to file charges.

Over the weekend, a traffic accident took on deadly proportions when a Carrollton man was shot and killed off Interstate 71 in Carroll County.

“Unfortunately, road rage is becoming more and more common and we don’t want to see this happen in our community,” KSP Trooper Chad Johnson told WLKY.

KSP identified the man killed as Daniel Shouse.

The fatal incident occurred very close to Laura Wilson’s home; she lives on the same street and attended the same church as the victim.

“From what I knew of him, he was very, very nice, very sweet and, you know, very articulate. He didn’t seem to have a bad hair on his body,” Wilson said.

But road rage can overwhelm anyone, and Johnson said Saturday’s shooting involved Shouse and another driver.

“I’m not sure what made either or both of them so angry,” Johnson said.

Investigators said the two drivers were traveling south on I-71 around 7 p.m. when Shouse passed the other vehicle. The driver called 911 and told police Shouse had pulled out a gun. Then, Johnson said, both vehicles took Exit 43 onto KY Highway 389.

At some point after they left the ramp, Johnson said, Shouse made a U-turn and returned to the other driver. That’s when the argument escalated and shots were fired.

Both drivers were in their vehicles at the time.

“We have reason to believe there were firearms in both vehicles,” Johnson said.

The other driver remained at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with KSP’s investigation.

“It simply comes down to not feeling road rage and not taking another human being’s life,” Wilson said.

The Carroll County District Attorney’s Office will decide whether to file charges.
