Person shot in downtown Newton

NEWTON, NC (WBTV) – Police say a person was shot in downtown Newton Monday afternoon.

The shooting occurred around 3:15 p.m. at the corner of South Brady Avenue and East A Street.

Police said they found a man in a car stopped at a stop sign at the intersection suffering from a gunshot wound.

First responders tried to save the victim’s life, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.

Authorities said a suspect had been taken into custody. They believe the killing was an isolated incident and pointed out that there was no danger to the public.
