A young man dies tragically in a motorcycle accident on the Merida-Tetiz highway

A young motorcyclist who had just celebrated his 26th birthday was killed in an accident on the Mérida-Tetiz federal highway when he skidded.

On Saturday, June 8, a motorcyclist named Yonathan del Jesús Falcón Almeyda (a) “Yoni” was riding on the aforementioned road. When he reached kilometer 19+800, near the Texán Palomeque bridge, he apparently lost control of the handlebars in a split second and skidded violently between the stones and weeds.

Passing witnesses called 9-1-1 for assistance shortly after 5 a.m., and police and paramedics from the Secretary of Public Safety arrived on the scene to provide first aid.

However, there was little they could do as Yoni had no signs of life. It was later determined that the cause of death was severe abdominal trauma.

The place was cordoned off by the state police, where relatives of the now deceased appeared, unable to comprehend the tragedy and telling the authorities that the man had celebrated his 26th birthday just a few hours earlier.
