Disneyland employees are mourning the “tragic” death of Club 33 administrator Bonnye Lear, who fell from a moving golf cart in the backstage area of the Anaheim theme park and hit her head.

“We are heartbroken over the loss of Bonnye and extend our sincere condolences to everyone who cared for her,” Ken Potrock, president of the Disneyland Resort, said in a statement. “At this time, our focus is on supporting her family and our staff through this tragic event and making sure they have the resources they need.”

According to spokesman Sergeant Jonathan McClintock, Anaheim Police and Fire Departments responded to a traffic accident in a backstage area of Disneyland at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5.

According to McClintock, police and firefighters found a Disneyland employee who had fallen from a moving golf cart and hit her head. She was taken to a local hospital in serious condition and later died of her injuries, McClintock said.

Bonnye Mavis Lear, 60, of Fullerton, died Friday, June 7, according to Orange County Coroner’s Office spokesman Sergeant Frank Gonzalez.

Anaheim Police detectives are investigating the traffic accident.

Club 33 employees were “terribly saddened” after being notified of the death of their colleague in the casting department, as employees are called in Disneyland parlance. Lear worked in the club’s member services department, which is open only to members.

Disneyland touts the private Club 33 in New Orleans Square as exclusive, world-class and shrouded in mystery. Club 33 was inspired by the VIP lounges Walt Disney experienced at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, where It’s a Small World and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln were first shown. The private Disneyland club opened in May 1967, a few months after Disney’s death in December 1966.
