Forecast: Severe storms trigger Pinpoint Weather Warning Day

DENVER (KDVR) – A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day has been issued for the metropolitan area and eastern plains ahead of strong to severe thunderstorms.

The greatest danger for the metropolitan region is hail and destructive gusts of wind. In the plains, hailstones with a diameter of more than 5 centimeters and isolated tornadoes are to be expected.

Weather today: Sunny morning with thunderstorms in the afternoon

We’ll start off with sunshine this morning before a very changeable day in Denver and the Plains, with temperatures starting at 13 to 16 degrees and rising to 25 to 27 degrees.

Thunderstorms in the metropolitan area will begin around 1 p.m. and will last until around 4 p.m. The greatest danger will be hail and gusty winds. Be sure to take precautions in the first half of the day.

Meanwhile, there is a slight and increased risk of severe weather across the Plains with the possibility of hailstones up to 2 inches in diameter and isolated tornadoes. These will occur between 2 and 7 p.m.

Weather tonight: Persistent rain showers and thunderstorms, then clearing

Showers and thunderstorms will continue into the late evening hours before the skies clear. Low temperatures at night will fall to 13 to 16 degrees Celsius.

Outlook: More storm probability before warming

Sunday will start sunny. From late afternoon and evening onwards the probability of thunderstorms will increase, with strong to severe thunderstorms possible in some places.

In severe thunderstorms, hail and destructive gusts of wind are the main danger. Temperatures will be cooler again, but seasonal, reaching up to 27 degrees Celsius.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected again on Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will rise on both days from a low of around 13 degrees to a high of around 27 degrees.

The second half of the working week will see drier and warmer weather, with highs of around 30 degrees on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
