First Alert weather warning until this evening as winds increase and temperatures drop

Highs reached 112 degrees yesterday, making it the hottest day of 2024 so far, but northwest winds are picking up and the heat should ease by the weekend. A heat advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. tonight.

Northwest winds will pick up and, according to Palm Springs police, North Indian Canyon at the river mouth is already closed due to limited visibility.

Winds are expected to reach 20-25 mph daily this weekend during the afternoon and evening, then ease into the next week.

Highs will be between 105 and 109 degrees this afternoon, and it will be a bit cooler tomorrow.

Temperatures will remain above normal into next week, but there is no longer a heat warning in effect.
