Christian Benford is the Buffalo Bills’ most underrated player

The Buffalo Bills lost numerous defensive backs during the 2024 offseason.

Safety Jordan Poyer is now with the Miami Dolphins. Cornerback Tre’Davious White has made the jump across the country to join the Los Angeles Rams. Micah Hyde could very well return to the safety position either.

But they have Christian Benford and NFL.com likes that.

The league website named each team’s most underrated player. For the Bills, Benford was the choice.

With Rasul Douglas as the presumptive top cornerback in Buffalo’s defense, Benford often seems overlooked. In reality, Benford’s skills probably made the Bills feel like releasing White wouldn’t be the end of the world. Benford can play.

Here’s NFL.com’s breakdown on Benford:

In the 2022 NFL Draft, Buffalo spent its first-round pick on Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam. Two days, five rounds and 162 picks later, the Bills are back in the corner, this time selecting a much less heralded prospect from the FCS program, Villanova. Surprisingly, Benford quickly beat out Elam for a starting spot at CB in year one, although injuries cut his rookie campaign short. In year two, Benford completely broke out, starting 14 games and posting a top-10 PFF grade among qualified cornerbacks. With offseason attrition in Buffalo’s secondary, the Bills will lean on this former Day 3 steal to play a vital role in Sean McDermott’s defense.
