Williamsport police are working the scene of a fatal crash on Route 220.

The driver of the pickup truck killed late Saturday afternoon on Route 220 at the Reach Road intersection was Wayne Allen Gower, 30, of 45 Back St., Montoursville, who was pronounced dead at the scene by a Lycoming County coroner. He suffered blunt force trauma and was dead at the scene. Gower, who was pulling a trailer, was traveling south on Route 220 when he lost control of his vehicle about 4:45 p.m., police said.

A passenger, Brett Nichols, 29, of the same address, was taken to UPMC Williamsport for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

According to investigators, it appeared Gower, who also had an address on the city’s High Street, was overtaking another vehicle and oversteered when the trailer hitch began to sway, causing him to lose control, police said.
