Houston car break-ins: 18 cars broken into parking lot of Millennium High Street apartments on Westheimer, victims say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Police are investigating a second wave of car break-ins at another upscale apartment complex.

Two of the victims said officers told them 18 cars were broken into Thursday morning in the parking lot of the Millennium High Street Apartments in Westheimer, near Highland Village.

Eyewitness News previously reported 20 cars broken into the garage at the Grand at Upper Kirby that same day.

“The security element is totally broken, especially when it happens in a garage, especially when it’s an area where security is supposed to be provided,” said Tini Yarima, who said it was the second time in three years his car was broken into at The Millennium, said.

This time, the thieves took electronic devices as well as his passport and social security card.

“I don’t even know what they would do with that,” Yarima said.

Tenants at the Grand had taken issue with the lack of security guards at the complex.

“I don’t want anyone who’s not used to this type of lifestyle to be able to just walk in here,” one tenant told Eyewitness News on Thursday.

Although the Millennium has security patrols, tenants say they clearly don’t deter thieves.

“I mean, 18 cars when you have a patrol car that apparently does rounds every hour?” » said one of the victims of Thursday’s burglaries.

On May 8, another Millennium tenant said one of his trucks was broken into and another was stolen.

“It’s not working. Something’s not working,” he said.

Tenants also say they are concerned that management has not sent them any alerts about the break-ins.

“I know someone else who lives here and she didn’t even know this happened. I was the one who had to alert her. ‘Hey, go check your car. Make sure everything’s OK ‘” Yarima said.

Eyewitness News reached out to the apartment management company but did not receive a response.
