Israel sent messages to Tehran to avoid Iranian reaction to embassy attack

Israel has sent messages to Tehran via Egypt that it will make “compromises” in Gaza to avert an Iranian reaction to an attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria, the Tasnim news agency reported.

The Iranian news agency report quoted the chief of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s Aerospace Force.

In April, Iran launched explosive drones and fired missiles at Israel in its first direct attack on Israeli territory. It was in retaliation for an alleged Israeli attack on its consulate in Damascus that killed seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officers.

“Israel has sent the message through the Egyptian Foreign Minister that it is ready to compromise in the Gaza war to avoid Iranian retaliation,” said Amirali Hajizadeh.

Explosion in Damascus causes uproar

An explosion was heard in the al-Maza district of Damascus, Israeli media reported on Saturday, citing Syrian reports. The Iranian embassy is located in Al-Maza.

At least one person was killed; their identity has not yet been disclosed, but they are considered to be “close to Iran”.

Notably, this Iranian embassy in al-Maza is the same one that was attacked last month in an attack attributed to Israel. That attack killed senior members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including the commander of the Quds Force in Lebanon and Syria. Mohammed Reza Zahedi, the IRGC’s chief for Lebanon and Syria, was assassinated in that April airstrike along with his lieutenant and about five other officers, the IRGC claimed that night.

Iran then fired hundreds of missiles and drones directly at Israel for the first time, claiming this was retaliation for the alleged Israeli attack on the embassy.
