Shirleon fire near Banning remains under investigation

The center of the wildfire was in the area at the foot of the San Bernardino National Forest.



BANNING, CALIFORNIA – A wildfire that broke out in rugged terrain on the south end of Banning was fully contained Wednesday after consuming a total of seven acres.

According to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, the Shirleon Fire was reported at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of ​​Old Banning Idyllwild Road and Shirleon Drive.

According to the agency, ten firefighting crews and four manual crews were sent to the scene and encountered slow-burning flames in the east.

Firefighters worked all night and most of Wednesday drawing cordons and closing gaps.

No tanker aircraft or helicopters were requested by Cal Fire.

The center of the fire was in the area at the foot of the San Bernardino National Forest, and firefighters managed to completely contain the brush by 3 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.

No injuries were reported in connection with the fire; no private property was affected.

The cause of the fire was investigated.
