Dead Possums Riding Club Honors Students with County Patriot | Scholarships Community

The Dead Possums Riding Club announced the winners of its 2024 Mercer County Patriot’s Scholarships: Madelyn Sheffel of Grove City, Lily Chapman of Greenville and Abigail Gardner of Hermitage.

Madelyn is the daughter of Bruce and Lynn Sheffel. She has a 4.0 GPA and was accepted to Slippery Rock University to double major in math and dance. Madelyn is the granddaughter of a veteran.

She ranks first in her class of 161 students at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School. In addition to being employed, Madelyn is involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, several dance and performance societies, and is also an outstanding Girl Scout, having received the Girl Scout Gold Award. Madelyn was a finalist for Miss Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Teen and has contributed over 2,400 hours of service to 18 different charities.

Lily is the daughter of Kris and Roxanne Chapman. She has a 3.98 GPA and was accepted into Slippery Rock University’s physician assistant program.

Lily is the niece of a veteran. In addition to holding a job, Lily was captain of the senior team in both varsity volleyball and basketball at Greenville. Lily is a member of Student Council, National Honor Society and Key Club, as well as being a senior mentor. Lily has volunteered her time for five local charities.

Abigail is the daughter of Mark and Amy Gardner. She has a 3.9 GPA and was accepted to John Carroll University as a Biomedical Physics major.

She is the great-granddaughter of four veterans. In addition to being employed, Abigail was a member of Student Council, Students for Charity, Flagline, track and field, soccer and several school clubs. Abigail is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society, as well as the first place winner of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for the 16th District of Pennsylvania and a representative of the Reynolds VFW. Abigail has also volunteered her time for six local charities.

Since 2018, the organization has awarded $24,500 to Mercer County students through the Mercer County Patriot’s Scholarships.
