Scooter accident claims one life on Route 9 | Latest from WDEL News

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Sunday evening, May 26, 2024, on New Castle Avenue at the corner of Memorial Drive.

According to police, a man on an electric scooter was riding south on New Castle Avenue and approached the intersection when a car turned left in front of him.

The scooter struck the side of the car. The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was treated at the scene by New Castle County paramedics and taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 50-year-old driver of the car told police she did not see the scooter coming.

The victim’s name and age have not yet been released.
