News Flash • Frederick Police Department announces graduation

The Frederick Police Department is proud to announce the graduation of its 67th Academy class. The ceremony was held today, May 24, 2024, in the JBK Theater at Frederick Community College, where twelve police students from three law enforcement agencies were honored for successfully completing their demanding training program.

The 67th Academy Class began training on October 16, 2023, and has completed nearly 1,400 hours of comprehensive instruction over the past eight months. This training, conducted by the Frederick Police Department’s Training Academy, accredited by the Maryland Police Training Commission, prepares recruits not only from the Frederick Police Department, but also from neighboring law enforcement agencies.

Our academy curriculum is designed to integrate community policing strategies with a strong emphasis on scenario-based learning, ensuring our graduates are well prepared to serve and protect our communities.

Following today’s graduation ceremony, the ten officers joining the Frederick Police Department will begin an important 10-week field training and evaluation program. This program is an important part of their transition from academy training to practical field experience and will expose them to real-world situations under the guidance of experienced FPD officers.

The Frederick Police Department’s outstanding trainers who have worked tirelessly to ensure our new officers meet the highest standards include:

Lt. Kevin Meyer, Commander of the Support Services Division
Sgt. Ryan Forrest, head of the training unit
Cpl. Shannon Stream, deputy head of the training unit
