First Alert Forecast: Flood monitoring continues Tuesday evening

Severe weather potential ends across Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin as we approach sunset on Tuesday. Storms with lightning and locally heavy rain will continue over the next few hours. Rainfall totals will be more than 1 inch this afternoon and evening from the southern metro through Mankato and Rochester. It’s possible there will be another inch or two of rain before moving north after 10 p.m. If you live near a river or low-lying area, be aware of rising water. As always, never drive on water-covered roads – especially when it’s dark!

As the rain eases, strong westerly winds will blow overnight. Gusts of 30 to 40 mph are possible across most of Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin through Wednesday. There is a small chance for a pop-up shower or T-Shower on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. The next good chance for rain and light storms will be Friday afternoon and evening. If you’re looking forward to a three-day weekend, the forecast is good most of the time! Saturday and Sunday will be mostly dry, with isolated storms occurring on Sunday evening that will last until Monday.
