After his arrest, Scottie Scheffler spoke about his experiences in prison

Scottie Scheffler stunned the golf world on Friday when news broke that he had been arrested.

Scheffler was arrested in Valhalla, Kentucky on May 17 and faces a number of charges.

The four charges include second-degree assault on a police officer and lesser charges of third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and failure to obey signals from officers directing traffic.

In his statement shared on Instagram, Scheffler addressed the incident, writing, “This morning I followed police instructions.”

“It was a very chaotic situation, understandably given the tragic accident that had occurred previously, and there was a lot of misunderstanding about what I thought I was being asked to do,” he continued.

“I never intended to disobey any of the instructions. I hope I can put that aside and focus on golf today.”

“Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest condolences to the family of the man who died in the earlier accident this morning. That really puts everything into perspective.”

Scheffler then spoke about his experiences in prison and seemed to make light of the situation.

He also talked about what it was like warming up in a prison cell before the PGA Championship.

At a press conference, he said it was his “first time stretching in a prison cell.”

He added that his “head is still reeling from the day’s events” and that he “never thought about going to jail before teeing off.”

He said: “I was just sitting there waiting and I started to warm up. I felt like there was a chance I could still come out here and play, so I started going through my routine.

“I tried to get my heart rate down as much as possible today, but like I said, I still feel like my head is spinning a little. But I was lucky enough to get back out there and play some golf.”

The incident, in which Scheffler was taken into police custody in handcuffs, occurred as he was on his way to Valhalla Golf Club.

Scheffler had been trying to avoid traffic as a result of an accident and a police officer ordered him to stop.

Darlington said Scheffler drove another 10 or 20 yards following the instruction before stopping as he turned onto the golf course.

After stopping, the officer asked Scheffler to get out of the car and was then taken into custody.

UNILAD has reached out to Scheffler’s representatives for comment.
