Authorities are issuing a warning after a possible alligator was spotted in Kent Lake in Kensington Metropark

MILFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich – An alligator may have been spotted in Kent Lake at Kensington Metropark in Milford Township.

Officials issued a stark warning on Thursday (May 16), highlighting the potential danger and urging residents and visitors to stay safe.

Signs have been posted around the lake to alert visitors to the possibility and to contact Metroparks police if the alligator is spotted.

Alligators are not native to Michigan. So if one shows up, it’s most likely because someone released a pet alligator into the lake.

If an alligator is spotted, residents and visitors should not approach it. Instead, they should immediately contact Metroparks Police at 810-227-8910 to ensure their safety.

Officials say residents or visitors with pets or wildlife should not be released and relocated to the Metroparks.
