Actor Steve Buscemi is attacked in a “random act of violence” in New York City

“Boardwalk Empire” star Steve Buscemi, 66, was attacked in New York City last week when an unknown man walked up to him and punched him in the face in the middle of the day.

Buscemi was reportedly walking through New York’s Kips Bay neighborhood when the man punched him in the face New York Post reported. According to police, the attack occurred shortly before noon on Wednesday.

“I saw he was with a woman and then through the corner of the window I saw him trip and fall backwards,” said a worker who witnessed the attack. “He immediately got up and ran in the opposite direction. I didn’t see who hit him.”

Buscemi, a Brooklyn native and former FDNY firefighter, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after the attack. He suffered a swollen left eye and some facial injuries, but is otherwise doing well, the actor’s representatives said New York Post.

“Steve Buscemi was attacked in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of random violence in the city,” his publicist said in a statement on Sunday. “He is doing well and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, although he is incredibly sad for everyone that this happened while he was also walking the streets of New York.”

Buscemi’s attacker fled after hitting the actor. Video surveillance released by the NYPD showed the alleged attacker was a bearded man wearing black sweatpants, a blue T-shirt, a baseball cap and white sneakers.

Buscemi’s acting career spans five decades. He debuted in the 1986 film Farewell looks And has appeared in numerous blockbuster films including Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Desperado, Armageddon, Fargo, And The wedding singer. He also had recurring roles on television shows The sopranos And 30 Rock.

His most famous role to date was that of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson in Boardwalk Empire, which earned him a Golden Globe and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.
