A Tesla crashed into a building Saturday morning, leaving three dead and three others hospitalized in Pasadena.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. near Sierra Madre at Foothill Boulevard and Vista Street.

According to Pasadena police, the Tesla carrying six passengers ran a red light at high speed, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle struck a curb before crashing into the building, fatally ejecting three occupants and injuring the others, aged between 17 and 22.

According to school officials, some of those involved were Maranatha High School students.

Maranatha High School expressed its sadness and called for prayers for those affected. “We mourn this immense loss…In this difficult time, we turn to our faith in Christ Jesus for comfort and strength and ask others to join us in praying for all who are suffering from this tragedy.”

Lt. Anthony Russo of the Pasadena Police Department provided details of the crash, noting the extensive damage that led to power outages in the area.

Utility workers restored power to the area while police investigated whether the driver was impaired, looking at footage from the Tesla’s cameras. The victims’ names were not released pending notification of families.
