UPDATE: July 30 at 3:30 p.m.
Michael (MK) McKinney III has been charged with murder and aiding and abetting tampering in connection with the Amber Spradlin killing, according to an indictment unsealed after his arrest Tuesday. His father, Prestonburg dentist Michael McKinney II, has been charged with aiding and abetting tampering.

In addition, Josh Mullins was charged with aiding and abetting tampering in connection with the case.

Original story:
Kentucky State Police made several arrests Tuesday afternoon in connection with the murder of Amber Spradlin.

Officers escorted Dr. Michael McKinney out of the Brick House restaurant in handcuffs. They also used LEX 18 to take another man, Josh Mullins, with Dr. McKinney to the Floyd County Detention Center.

LEX 18 previously reported that police found Spradlin dead in a Prestonsburg home in June 2023 after a night out with friends. She was reportedly stabbed 11 times.
Since then, the 38-year-old’s family has been waiting for answers from the investigation and for arrests to be made in the case.

On Tuesday, Spradlin’s family was present at McKinney’s arrest. They say it has been 408 days since her murder. At this time, LEX 18 does not believe Dr. McKinney will be charged with murder.
