Car accidents in Michigan

Flint, MI – Accident with injuries on Aubrey St. near E Stewart Ave.Flint, MI – Accident with injuries on Aubrey St. near E Stewart Ave.Car accidents occur daily in Michigan, often resulting in serious injuries that require emergency medical care. Many people are hospitalized with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and broken bones as a result. Unfortunately, over 80 percent of car accidents reported nationwide are the result of some form of negligence.

The most common factors contributing to car accidents in our state include:

  • Disregarding the right of way: Many accidents happen because drivers do not yield the right of way to oncoming traffic at intersections or do not yield the right of way to pedestrians when crossing the street.
  • Distraction while driving: Activities such as texting, eating or turning on the radio while driving significantly increase the risk of an accident because they distract attention from the road.
  • Unsafe lane change: Failure to indicate or check your blind spot before changing lanes may result in collisions because other drivers may not notice the maneuver.
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs: Impaired judgment and slowed reflexes can make it difficult for drivers to respond appropriately to changing traffic conditions, which can lead to serious accidents.
  • Speeding: Exceeding the posted speed limit reduces the driver’s ability to react to sudden obstacles and increases the severity of collisions if they occur.
