Containment of Diamond Incident fire at Greycliff rises to 40 percent

Firefighters were able to gain ground on the Diamond Incident fire seven miles southeast of Greycliff on Monday and achieved 40 percent containment of the fire.

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation reported Tuesday that the fire still burns at 650 acres.

According to DNRC, the fire was first reported Saturday night at Hobble Diamond Ranch. It broke out near two other fires, Hobble Diamond and Shank Basin, which were also caused by lightning and were contained earlier this month.

The Diamond Incident fire involved 50 personnel from multiple agencies, including the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, Montana DNRC, and local agencies from Sweetgrass, Yellowstone, Stillwater, and Musselshell counties.

Emergency crews are expected to remain on site for the next few days to extinguish the fires. They are currently working to reinforce the danger zone, remove vegetation and create stronger firebreaks.

Current information about the fire can be found at MT Fire Info.
