Bad Santa actor Tony Cox runs over teenage cyclist in car crash: report

Bad Santa Claus Actor Tony Cox was involved in a car accident on Thursday that left a teenage cyclist in hospital.

The Los Angeles Police Department officer tells PEOPLE that a traffic accident occurred around 11:55 a.m. Thursday at Beverly Boulevard and Detroit Street. According to the officer, a minor, approximately 13 years old, was struck by the vehicle and taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation into the accident is still ongoing, the official said.

While the LAPD would not confirm the driver’s identity, photos obtained by TMZ show 61-year-old Cox behind the wheel. Some photos show street signs indicating the accident occurred at the same location identified by the LAPD.

According to the TMZ report, Cox was turning right when his car hit the young man, who was riding a silver Schwinn bike in the crosswalk. Photos of the accident show the bike becoming wedged under the passenger tire of Cox’s car and later developing a bent front tire after it was pulled out from under the vehicle.

The outlet also reported that although the minor was thrown from his bike during the collision, he was wearing a helmet and was alert and conscious.

TMZ updated their story Thursday afternoon to report that Cox was not held responsible for the incident and was not arrested or issued a citation for the accident.

A representative for Cox did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Cox is perhaps best known for starring alongside Billy Bob Thornton in the film Bad Santa Claus Film franchise, the first of which was released in 2003. He also appeared in Epic film, Space balls, Me, me and Irene and the 2006 television series Immediate Defamong several other projects.
