Man sentenced to five years in prison for sexually abusing his three-year-old neighbour in Thane

Thane: A court in Thane district of Maharashtra sentenced a man to five years in prison for sexually abusing a three-year-old girl.

Special Judge DS Deshmukh on Saturday convicted the accused, a resident of Diva, on charges related to Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) scheme.

The accused was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.

Special Public Prosecutor Sandhya H. Mhatre informed the court that the accused and the victim were neighbours.

On September 17, 2022, the child was playing in front of her house when the defendant lured her into his house and sexually abused her, she said.

During the trial, five witnesses for the prosecution were heard.
