California rescue puppy dies when UPS driver throws 55-pound package over fence

A beloved family dog was killed when a UPS employee threw a heavy package over a fence in Los Angeles without checking to see if the puppy was on the other side, a report said.

The 55-pound package completely crushed little Lulu, said her grieving owner Naria Harutjunjan.

“I took the package and saw my dog, she couldn’t move anymore,” Harutyunyan told KCAL News.

Shocking surveillance footage captured by a neighbor shows the UPS driver carrying the huge package toward the home around 5 p.m. on Wednesday and throwing it over the gate instead of trying to reach the recipient or ring the doorbell.

Harutyunyan’s Ring camera captures the image a moment later and shows the driver crouching down and looking toward the gate – apparently after hearing a suspicious noise.

Instead of investigating, the delivery driver jumps back in his truck and drives away without notifying the homeowner.

Harutyunyan wanted to bring her two dogs back into the house. Cookie came in immediately, but Lulu was nowhere to be found.

At that moment, the dog owner lifted the crate and saw the terrible tragedy.

“My neighbors were there,” Harutyunyan said. “They helped me with the dog to take him to the Mission Hills clinic. But they said he had died.”

The heartbroken Los Angeles resident said she rescued Lulu a year ago, but the little pup was a beloved member of the family.

“Yesterday, before I was going to let her out, I took her and said: ‘I don’t know, Lulu, why, but I love you so much. That was the last time,'” Harutyunyan told the outlet through tears.

Devastated and angry, Harutyunyan contacted UPS and Amazon, who she said arranged the purchase.

She is now considering taking legal action against the two companies and the driver.

“He could kill me,” she said. “He could kill any baby playing here, or anyone else.”

UPS told the post office that it was aware of the situation and planned an investigation.

The delivery company declined to say whether the driver was penalized for his action or whether he violated company protocol by throwing the package over a fence.

Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

This tragedy is not the first time that a UPS driver has allegedly injured a dog while throwing a heavy package through the air.

In 2022, a delivery driver was filmed throwing a box containing a wheelchair over a gate in Florida.

The driver drove away without warning the homeowner, who told Fox 13 at the time that they would never have known about the incident if they hadn’t checked the security camera.

Fortunately, the dog was uninjured.
