Roosters were seized during an investigation into cockfighting in Adams County

The sheriff’s office said 39 birds, including 32 roosters, were seized. Some had injuries consistent with cockfighting.

ADAMS COUNTY, Colorado – More than three dozen birds, some with injuries consistent with cockfighting, were seized as part of a joint investigation, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Building Department were recently notified of an individual suspected of keeping roosters for cockfighting on property off Hudson Road in Watkins.

A detective with the Eastern Plains Sheriff’s Office and Adams County Animal Management coordinated with the Bureau of Animal Protection to obtain a search warrant on the property.

The sheriff’s office said 39 birds, including 32 roosters, were seized. Some of them had injuries consistent with cockfighting.

A man was arrested on suspicion of animal fighting and aggravated animal cruelty. The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office will make a final decision on charges.
