Pedestrian killed in traffic accident in California

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Saturday evening, July 13, on Highway 1 at Soberanes Canyon Trail. A 25-year-old Seaside resident was driving her Ford F150 northbound on Highway 1 when an 80-year-old pedestrian crossed from the westbound shoulder into the roadway, according to the CHP. The Ford was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian. The driver of the Ford remained on scene and cooperated with officers. The pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. While her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the CHP says the woman is from out of state. The Seaside woman and her passenger were not injured in the crash. Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors in the crash, according to the CHP. No arrests have been made in connection with the crash. The CHP is urging drivers to slow down in areas where there are a lot of pedestrians and to be aware of pedestrians’ surroundings, especially when crossing a street. A 25-year-old Seaside resident was driving her Ford F150 northbound on Highway 1 when an 80-year-old pedestrian crossed from the shoulder of the road into the westbound lane, CHP said. The Ford was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian.

The Ford driver remained on site and cooperated with the officers. The pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, but CHP says the woman is from another state.

CHP reminds motorists to slow down in areas with high pedestrian traffic and to be aware of pedestrians’ surroundings, especially when crossing a street.
