Dead dolphin found on Third Beach in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — According to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM), the Mystic Aquarium is working to recover a dead dolphin found on Third Beach in Middletown.

Once the common dolphin is recovered, an autopsy will be performed at the aquarium to determine the cause of death, according to DEM.

Mystic is part of a network of organizations that work under the Marine Mammal Protection Act to protect stranded whales, dolphins and porpoises in Rhode Island and Connecticut.

Last week, a minke whale died after becoming stranded on Briggs Beach in Little Compton.
