Mexican citizen arrested in Texas after resisting arrest and assaulting police officer | Texas

FREER, Texas — According to Freer police, a Mexican national was arrested in Freer early Saturday morning after resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

On July 13, 2024, at approximately 5:54 a.m., Freer Police received a 911 call reporting a suspicious man knocking on the front door of a residence in the 100 block of South Sun Avenue. When Lt. Flores arrived, he noticed a man of Hispanic descent, later identified as Christian Ruvalcaba Salas, a Mexican national residing in Giddings, Texas, standing on the porch looking into the residence.

Further investigation revealed that Salas was not known to the homeowners. When officers attempted to arrest him, Salas resisted arrest, which led to a physical altercation during which Lt. Flores lost radio contact with the Freer PD dispatch center. Lt. Flores was able to call for further assistance using his cell phone’s 9-1-1 number.

Salas was eventually subdued and arrested. He was charged with trespassing (class A misdemeanor), resisting arrest/search/transport (class A misdemeanor), carrying a weapon without permission (class A misdemeanor), and assault on a police officer (second degree felony). A firearm belonging to Salas was also recovered at the scene.

A database check revealed that Salas has an arrest warrant out for child sexual abuse in Mexico and is awaiting extradition.

The Freer Police Department thanked the United States Border Patrol Freer Station and the Duval County Sheriff’s Office for their immediate response and assistance. “This is a reminder of the dangers law enforcement faces every day. No job is without danger. Be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity,” the agency stated.
