NBA suspends Patrick Beverley four games for throwing a ball at a fan

Patrick Beverley was suspended for his actions during the Milwaukee Bucks’ 120-98 loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 6 of their first-round playoff series.

The NBA announced Thursday that Beverley will be suspended four games for throwing a basketball at spectators and interacting with a reporter after the game.

“Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley has been suspended four games without pay for violently throwing a basketball at spectators multiple times and engaging in inappropriate conversation with a reporter during media availability,” the NBA statement said.

Beverley got into an argument late in the game that eliminated the Bucks from the playoffs with a Pacers fan who taunted him. Eventually, the veteran guard got his hands on a ball and then threw it at the fan. His aim went wide and he instead hit a woman in the stands before collecting the ball and hurling it at the male fan again. After the game, he refused to answer a reporter’s question when he found out she wasn’t subscribed to his podcast.

The 35-year-old took to his podcast this week to explain the situation, concluding: “I have to get better and I will be better.”

Beverley is headed to free agency and will now miss the first four games of next season. During the 2023–24 season, he split time between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Bucks. In 73 games (13 starts), Beverley averaged 6.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 0.6 steals in 20.0 minutes per game.
