Latest news on Trump shooting: ‘Shooter and bystander dead’ – as bloodied ex-president calls on his supporters to ‘fight’ | US News

We heard the thoughts of US correspondent Mark Stone, who observed the incident.

“You can hear some of the footage as he begins his speech,” Stone says. “Then he appears to put his hand to his ear and then lie down on the floor. That’s standard procedure for someone who has been president, a former president, someone of that rank.

“They are told that there is a procedure for what to do if something like this happens.”

“From what I can tell from the footage, the shots appear to have come from the left side when you look at him because people are looking over to that side.

“And then a few seconds later a scream is heard. What we don’t yet know is where those shots – if they are confirmed as shots – landed and whether they actually hit people in the crowd.

“This is an extraordinary moment. Many, many years have passed since the assassination of a president – if that is what it was.

“Ronald Reagan – he was assassinated in the 1980s – in Washington DC at the Hilton Hotel. This is evolving and incredibly serious.”
