President Cabral of the International Union of Police Associations honors SPD official Michael Skinner

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The International Union of Police Associations recognized the bravery of Sarasota Police Officer Michael Skinner, who rescued a boater in distress at sea in May.

IUPA President Sam A. Cabral presented Officer Michael Skinner with a letter, certificate and plaque describing his courageous life-saving actions: “On May 3, 2024, you responded to a distress call regarding an unmanned vessel circling in the water near channel marker 72. Upon arrival, you observed an unconscious man on the deck of the boat and that the boat was out of control.”

It continued: “You expertly intercepted the boat, wedged it against the seawall with your boat, climbed aboard and shut off the engine. The Sarasota County Fire Department was on standby at the seawall and thanks to your intervention they were able to provide medical aid that saved his life.”

In his letter, President Cabral stated: “On behalf of the entire IUPA, we thank you and appreciate your exemplary service. You are a true hero and remind us why officers wear their uniform every day.”
