“ALF” actor Benji Gregory reportedly found dead in Peoria

PHOENIX – A former child actor best known for his role in the hit ’80s sitcom “ALF” died last month in Peoria.

According to his sister, 46-year-old Benji Gregory and his service dog Hans were found dead in his car in a bank parking lot on June 13.

Rebecca Hertzberg-Pfaffinger said it was believed her brother had gone to the bank the previous evening to make a deposit but never got out of the car.

“He fell asleep and died of heat stroke in the car,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Gregory’s sister told TMZ that he suffers from depression, bipolar disorder and a sleep disorder that can keep him awake for several days.

Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office records confirmed the date of death. As of Thursday morning, the cause and manner of death were still undetermined.

What else was the “ALF” actor known for?

The late actor’s original name was Benjamin Gregory Hertzberg. According to IMDB, he was born on May 26, 1978, in Encino, California.

His first documented acting appearances were in 1984 in episodes of “The A-Team” and “TJ Hooker.” A year later, he appeared in two episodes of “Punky Brewster” as well as parts of “Amazing Stories” and “The Twilight Zone.”

Gregory rose to stardom in the role of Brian Tanner in “ALF.” ALF stands for “Alien Life Form.” In the primetime television series, a witty alien played by a furry puppet crashes in the Tanner family’s garage and ends up living with them.

The popular sitcom ran for four seasons from 1986 to 1989.

Gregory was involved in several projects in the early 1990s, including voice acting, before turning away from acting.

According to Variety, he joined the US Navy in 2003 and was honorably discharged for medical reasons two years later.
